He started panting while saying the last words. He looked at me as if my tongue would be locked now. He started staring at me from under his glasses. There was an age difference. He was from the neighbourhood. Being an elder, I had a feeling of respect for him. He was an English professor, so I thought he must have studied a lot. My belief was shattered after hearing his thoughts. Still, I selected respectful words from my dictionary and requested him-

"You are planting the idea of defeating others and hoisting  the flag of victory in the subconscious of your students. This may make your students violent but they will not  become calm and compassionate. They are not as concerned about improving their performance as they are about defeating others. With a friendly attitude, the only point in their subconscious will be how they can give the best performance by uniting their ability nodes. Without awakening the centre of friendliness, it is not possible to do  this."

"My nephew has been successful in the state level exam. He never learnt the lesson of friendliness. Rather, it would be more proper to say that he might have heard the word friendliness but the word friendliness might not be in his dictionary. Then tell me how did he become successful?" His tone became aggressive. He thought that now I would be speechless.

"Sir, I do not mean to say that without developing  friendliness, one cannot succeed in competition. I just want to say that friendliness makes the mind calm. The   seeds of positive thinking germinate. Competition and enmity are externally focused and love and friendliness have nothing to  do with the outsider. Love and friendliness are internally focused. Enmity is related to others. Love is related to oneself. The springs of love flow from within. Hatred begins with an external reaction." I thought that perhaps I was able to make my  point completely clear.

This is what happened. The special lines on his face started shrinking and expanding. He fell into deep thought. Very measured words came out of his mouth-

"These thoughts are new. I have never thought in this way."

He surrendered. He started feeling uncomfortable. Many expressions came and went on his face. He picked up the glass. He drank two sips of water, moistened his dry throat and asked-

"Where did these new thoughts come to your mind from?"

I did not give any answer. He became disappointed. After thinking for a while he said -

"These thoughts are not a figment of your mind. Tell me honestly, whose thoughts are these?"

I remained silent again. Now, I also started enjoying myself. He had accepted that whatever I was saying was true. Since, I was not even half his age, his ego was not allowing him to accept that a young man half of his age was saying the truth. His ego was also hurt by the fact that why such thoughts did not come to his mind.

"I want to know the name of the thinker. Please tell me." Now his tone had become pleading. He was getting desperate to know the name of the thinker. Perhaps his patience was breaking.

To be continued.......
