When the passerby went further, he saw that a person was breaking stones and humming a folk song. He did not look tired. He was hitting the stone with a hammer and was waiting for the result. He did not look troubled from any point of view. The passerby smiled and asked-
"What are you doing, friend.”
"The first temple of God is being built in this village. I am carving stones for that temple. The stones carved by my hands will help in the construction of the temple of God."
He started completing his unfinished folk song.
"You must be having trouble in this hot sun, friend."
He asked on humanitarian grounds.
"What is the problem, my friend? For years I have been earning a living for my family by breaking stones from this hill. It is because of these stones that my family survives.
Now a temple of God is being built with these stones. When the temple is completed, and the worship begins, then I will be happy that my carved stones have been used for worship." His happiness was evident while saying this.
The passerby was surprised. He had never thought that three persons are breaking stones from a mountain in the middle of the day. But the emotional state of all three is completely different. The first one is so sad that he is connecting his actions with the deeds of his past lives by telling the person who is asking him that he is blind. The second one is also sad. But his level of sadness is a little less. The third one is neither bothered by the sun nor by breaking stones. He is doing the work as if it is worship. He has no complaint. The passerby came to the conclusion that how the condition and direction of life is affected by the different ways of thinking of the three persons. He understood that the whole matter is based on feelings and way of thinking.
The passerby was not an ordinary person, he was a saint. He was studying the feelings of the three workers seriously. He was trying to understand the difference among the feelings of the three persons. He concluded that those who make work their meditation and enjoy it, then there is no complaint. The third person became friendly with the stones. There is so much power in friendliness.
We have to find out for ourselves whether we are affected by animosity or friendliness. If our life is more affected by animosity and hatred, then we should understand that life is going on the path of sorrow. It is true that animosity and hostility have immense power. Osho clearly says that when true or false enmity is planted in the minds of the common people, then the common people will have the misconception of considering themselves powerful. Repeatedly, the attempt to germinate the seed of fear of attack by the neighbouring country in the minds of the common people will create hatred and animosity towards the neighbouring country in the common people. Thus, there is power in the feeling of enmity but there is many times more power in the feeling of friendliness.
To be continued.......

A thought-provoking story that shows how mindset transforms the same work into misery, duty, or joy.
