All the monkeys nodded their heads in yes. The meeting ended with the resolution that they will not imitate humans anymore. If the cap seller throws his cap towards them, they will catch his cap. They will not throw their caps down under any circumstances.
The cap seller's son, in obedience to his father's orders, started selling caps in every village and hamlet. There are many coincidences in this world. It was a coincidence that his son was also passing by the same tree with a bundle of caps on his head. It came to his mind that he would rest a little under this tree with a dense shade and then will move ahead. He spread a sheet under the tree and lay down. He was tired. He did not know when he fell asleep.
The group of monkeys were watching with rapt attention.
As soon as they were sure that the cap seller was fast asleep, all the monkeys' eyes met. They came down in such a way that no sound was made. They opened the bundle of caps and sat on the tree wearing all the caps on their heads. All of them were looking at each other and giggling.
In the meanwhile, the cap seller woke up. He picked up his bundle and found it missing. He became very restless. Then he looked at the tree and saw that all the monkeys sitting on the tree were wearing caps. They were baring their teeth at him. He smiled. He remembered that his father had told him that monkeys are imitators. Monkeys do the same as humans do. He took off his cap from his head and threw it towards the monkeys. By chance, one monkey did not have a cap on his head. That monkey picked up that cap and covered it on his head and started teasing the cap seller by showing his teeth. No monkey threw his cap on the ground. They obeyed the orders of their leader.
The cap seller was surprised. His face fell.
He started throwing stones in panic. The monkeys were not afraid of stones. Seeing the stone coming towards them, they would move their body forward and backward to save themselves. He threw stones at the monkeys many times but the result was nil. When he got tired of throwing stones, he sat down on the ground in defeat.
Disappointed, the cap seller started walking towards home, rubbing his hands. The happiness of the monkeys was increasing. There was a festive atmosphere on the tree. Their leader was successful in making accept his intelligence.
