This is where the story ends in the textbooks. Osho says that this story is incomplete. Osho completes this incomplete story in this way-

The cap seller reached home late in the evening. He was over seventy years old. While having dinner with his elder son, he narrated the incident to his family and praised his intelligence and revealed how he had recovered the caps from the monkeys. His family also started praising his intelligence.

He became serious and told his elder son that I have become old now. I no longer have the strength to carry a bundle of caps from village to village. I get tired carrying the bundle and roaming around. Now you have grown up, the responsibility of continuing this family business is on your shoulders. My shoulders are tired now. The elder son agreed. Then he shared his experiences with the elder son. He said that you have to go to many villages and sell caps. So it is obvious that you have to rest under a tree. It is also possible that you may fall asleep while resting. Tie the bundle of caps firmly before sleeping. He told his son to tie the bundle firmly.

While informing his son about the incident that happened with him today, he said

"I knew that monkeys imitate humans. I took off my cap from my head and threw it towards the monkeys. In response, the monkeys also took off their caps from their heads and threw them. I tied all the caps in a bundle and came home."

He paused for a moment and said to his son in a convincing tone:

"If such an incident happens to you, do not panic. Take off your cap and throw it towards the monkeys. Monkeys will do the same."

        The son understood. He said-

"Okay, father. I will start selling caps from tomorrow. Anyway, I will tie the knot of the bundle firmly before  taking rest. Still, God forbid, if such an incident happens, I'll do the same thing you did today."

On the other hand, the monkeys also organized a meeting at night. They were sad because the caps were taken away. The leader of the monkeys had gone to another forest since morning. When he returned just now, the monkeys told their leader about today's incident. He got angry and organized a meeting of monkeys for discussion. He was angrily addressing the monkeys-

"Do you have something called intelligence or not? When the God was distributing intelligence, you were probably fell asleep. Fools, even today humans consider us imitators. Whereas humans are our evolved form. We have to break this notion that imitating humans is our nature. Listen carefully, now if ever a cap seller falls asleep under this tree and you will climb the neem tree with caps, then the cap seller takes off his cap and throws it towards you, then you guys will not throw your caps."

All the monkeys were listening to the leader's words with rapt attention. Feelings of remorse were clearly visible on their faces. There was silence all around. This silence was broken when an old monkey mustered up the courage to ask -

"Leader, what should we do?"

"We must grab that hat too." The leader passed the order.

All the monkeys nodded their heads in yes. The meeting ended with the resolution that they will not imitate humans anymore. If the cap seller throws his cap towards them, they will catch his cap. They will not throw their caps down under any circumstances.

To be continued.........
