People believe that Osho was against religions and society but this is not true. Osho was against the so-called superstitions and hypocrisy born out of religions and communities. The main objective of Osho was to expose the mental distortions that have arisen in society due to fulfilment of inherent selfishness of society and to present solution for it. You will be surprised to know that Osho has vehemently opposed religions but he has always appreciated religiousness. A long ago, a colleague professor’s son asked Osho, that why he speaks against religions? Osho said that religion is a singular word but your society has turned it into plural (religion was meant to be one but your society has broken it into many). He said that he has always favored Dharma. His intention is to make a person dharmik. As soon a person becomes dharmik or spiritual the clouds of ambition and arrogance dissolve from their life. Only after this, a person can become pure and have peaceful conscience.

The so-called religious people whose daily bread and butter was getting effected by Osho’s revolutionary spiritual speeches started accusing Osho that he was offending their gods and goddesses, since they were unable to contradict him by using logics. They were the people in whose life enthusiasm had disappeared like donkey’s horns- gone without a trace. These people’s faces have lost their aura, radiance and have been withered. They haveforgotten to differentiate between right and wrong. They have become slaves of a rigid line, unable to think beyond that (lakeer ka fakeer). Life has been emptied out of creativity and morality. The so-called knowledgeable persons have made people believe that their present is the result of their past life’s karma. This doctrine was spoon-fed like medicine, quietly robbing people of their chance to grow. This perception has spread throughout the whole society that, since the problems of this life are result of your past life, then what can we even do about it? They sat there exactly as they were, unchanged. They created such an obstacle in the way transforming our life so that no one could ever cross these obstacles.

People are entangled in the web of past life’s karmas in such a complicated way, that they become satisfied thinking that if our present life is the result of past life’s karma then we cannot do anything. Today, if sorrow has taken over our lives, then we do not have any solution to bid them farewell. We must endure the suffering. When any society becomes infected by this kind of perception, then we must understand how to get out this artificial web of pain. We have been robbed out of our capacity to understand and find a solution for breaking free from this prison. When Osho begun to awaken people, the proponents of these notions began to fume. They started to think of ways to defame Osho. Firstly, he was declared to be an atheist. In newspapers it was published that he was anti-religious.  That, he was abetting people to act against theirscriptures. I still rememberwhen I started reading Osho, my neighbors boycotted me unannounced. Whenever they would see me reading Osho, they would make bad faces and see me in a view of contempt, so that I would have guilty conscience and stop reading Osho.Slowly, my wisdom started awakening. I started undertaking the appropriateness and reasoning before undertaking any task. The terms like “why and how” used to linger on my heart and mind all the time. Whenever I used to read any story in magazines I started analyzing the mentality of writer. Then, I would start analyzing the end of that story, that whether or not the ending of this story was justified. Could any more incidents have been added to it? If I believed that, by introducing one more incident the story could have been more interesting than I would elaborate the story in my notebook and add one more incident to it. When I would tell these added incidents to my selected friends, their first question would always be that, “why do you stick your nose in everything?”

They did understand that the purpose behind my reading stories was not mere entertainment, rather there is a sincereness behind my reading wherein I do apply my wisdom. Sometimes, when I used to add plots in the stories of school’s textbooks which would delight my teachers, as a result of which, I was often asked to narrate the same in the class. Some teachers however, took exception to the plots so added by me and would often ridicule them.
